The project is proposed to be located at least 10 km off the south coast of Gippsland, near the towns of Port Albert, McLoughlins Beach and Woodside Beach.
Star of the South was granted a feasibility licence on 1 May 2024. We're currently in the advanced project development phase. If everything goes well with our studies, approvals and business case, the earliest construction could start is from around the middle of the decade.
We encourage all businesses to create a profile and submit an expression of interest on our ICN Gateway. This will ensure your details are included when our contractors are onboard and looking for local suppliers.
As procurement gets closer, we’ll refer to our ICN list of suppliers.
The Victorian Government has tasked VicGrid with developing new transmission needed to connect offshore wind to the grid. We're exploring how our proposed transmission route could be incorporated into the VicGrid process.
Most jobs will be with our major contractors, with the bulk of construction jobs needed at the earliest from around the middle of the decade. Ongoing long-term local jobs will be required during the operations phase towards the end of the decade. When these contractors are appointed, we will share their details and promote opportunities to apply for jobs.

We’re looking at a range of ports that may be suitable to support construction and operations activities. We expect to use multiple ports during the construction phase.
Construction ports need to have deep water to cater for the large vessels used to transport and install offshore wind infrastructure, along with suitable facilities and available land.
Barry Beach Marine Terminal and Port Anthony in South Gippsland have been identified as good options for Star of the South’s Gippsland Operations Base. This is where workers managing day-to-day wind farm construction and operations activities would be located.
Around 200 long-term, skilled jobs are expected to be created and managed through the Gippsland Operations Base.
